5 things buyers are looking for in a home

But with coronavirus changing the way we live and work, what exactly is on the wish list for buyers?

A study by Rightmove has revealed over a third of prospective buyers (39%) say lockdown has impacted what they’re looking for in their next home and for 30% of buyers, it’s living in a more rural area – making Surrey a very attractive prospect.

Here we break down a few more features buyers are looking for and some ways you can increase your chances of selling quickly and at the best price possible.

Make the most of your outside space

Wanting a bigger garden or access to a garden is on the up with 42% more searches for homes with gardens in May this year compared with the same month last year. Therefore, it’s important to make the most of your outside space, whatever its size.

Make sure your garden is looking its best by keeping the grass trim and giving the fence a quick lick of paint. If you have a shed, perhaps clear it out and furnish it to show how it could be used as a summerhouse and make sure your outdoor furniture is clean and presentable. If your outside space is small use pot plants and a bistro-style dining set to create usable space.

Create a work-from-home space

Half of the people surveyed by Rightmove (49%) said they are currently working from home over a third of buyers (36%) said they were looking for a better home workspace.

So, ensure you designate some form of space in your home to a study area, whether it be space under the stairs, a corner of the kitchen or a spare room

Sell a lifestyle not just a home

Many of us will have started new hobbies during lockdown or used the time to try and address any work/life imbalances. Three of the top activities that people are most likely to continue doing in the future are exercising outdoors, reading and gardening.

Appeal to buyers by showing them how they can continue to incorporate those new interests and priorities into their lifestyle.
