Best places to walk around Woking

And with Woking, we are truly blessed, whether you live in Horsell, Knaphill, Ripley or Woking town centre itself, we have so many wonderful places on our doorstep, it was difficult to choose our favourite – so we didn’t. Here are the best walks in the Woking area, as voted by you, in our recent local photography competition.
Basingstoke Canal
This wonderful canal cuts through our local area and offers waterside walks that appeal to all family groups.
Why we love it
Basingstoke Canal runs for 33 miles but it is great to hop on and off wherever you can on this route and just enjoy it for what it is, a fabulous, relatively easy, waterside walk. It runs from West Byfleet and there are plenty of places to pick the towpath up in Woking, Goldsworth Park and Brookwood. The waters are clear and, you can see some wonderful water plants as well as the amazing countryside it cuts through. Across the full stretch, there are many sights including Odiham Castle, Deepcut locks, aqueducts, scenic villages and historic buildings.
Goldsworth Park
Popular amongst locals, this lovely park features a picturesque lake and ample places to walk and explore the Woking countryside.
Why we love it
This 2 ½ mile walk includes a circular walk around the lake with its wonderful wildlife and, you also get to take in the lovely village of Horsell. Not too taxing, this walk can be enjoyed by the whole family and caters to all walking abilities.
Horsell Common
Horsell Common is crisscrossed with paths which are great fun to explore and has a range of terrains that can provide something for everyone.
Why we love it
This four-mile walk has a huge amount of variety and has plenty to keep the whole family amused. In addition to the beautiful countryside of the common itself, this route takes you past McLaren Park where the Formula 1 team are based, Fairoaks airport and along bridlepaths where you should be able to see horses in their paddocks.

What is not to love about Ripley? This quintessential village is set within some incredible Surrey countryside so there are ample places for gentle walks or challenging hikes.
Why we love it
This walk gives you some incredible variety and, as you follow its path, you get to enjoy aspects of the River Wey, Papercourt Lake, the lock and of course our stunning villages of Ripley, Send and Send Marsh. It might be relatively long at 4 ½ miles but it is well worth the effort, even if you do it in stages.
Top Family Tip: It can get muddy – so take your boots!
