Moving House Now The Market Has Reopened

Q: Will there be any significant changes now the market is reopened?

A: Yes, there are some significant adaptations and changes that have had to be made to reduce the risk of spreading coronavirus. Seymours branches are open but with some key adjustments to ensure the safety of our customers and staff, and that we operate within government guidelines. Some of our processes will be done online or over the phone, sellers will need to vacate their homes before inspections, properties need to be thoroughly cleaned, and the health and wellbeing of all parties will be in the foreground at every step of the process.

Q: What does this mean for moving house?

A: Moving house is now permitted, however social distancing rules must be followed. This includes staying two metres away from anyone who is not a member of your household and washing your hands frequently. Any member of the public that is vulnerable is likely to have to put moving plans on hold, and anyone who develops any coronavirus symptoms must also put their plans to move on hold while they self-isolate. It is worth considering that if you are in a property chain, then either of these unfortunate possibilities could disrupt your move.

Q: Where can I move geographically?

A: So far, the reopening only applies to England, meaning that you can move homes here, but not to the rest of the UK (as long as you follow public health regulations while doing so). If you want to move to Scotland, Wales or Northern Ireland, you will need to wait until their housing markets have been reopened.

Q: Are physical property viewings allowed now?

A: Yes, physical property viewings are taking place again; however, with more rules in place to ensure that these are undertaken safely. Currently, open-houses are not possible as they are hard to partake in without following government guidelines. To find out more about how we are conducting our property viewings, please see here.

Q: Can I still get a property valuation?

A: Yes, these will still be able to be completed. As with viewings, there have been some rules put in place to ensure that these can be done safely and correctly. To find out more, please see here.
