Blackwater, just south of Camberley in Surrey, is part of the Hart
district which was voted 3rd best place to live the UK in 2020 thanks to a number of factors such as low unemployment and high quality
of life.
Blackwater is not commonly considered a commuter town, but absolutely should be due to its fantastic rail routes across the local area. You can get to Wokingham, Aldershot, Guildford and Reading in under 20 minutes and London and Gatwick airport in just over an hour – providing a number of options for any Blackwater resident. On top of that, the A30 is on your doorstep taking you to the Meadows roundabout with routes to Camberley, Crowthorne, Frimley and the M3 and A331.
Another Blackwater secret is its plentiful supply of beautiful parks and walks with Hawley Lakes, Watchmoor Nature Reserve, and Blackwater Valley Path. A little further afield you have Sandhurst Memorial Park and Yateley Common also offering superb outdoor pursuits and activities.
In its immediate environs, Blackwater has a number of amenities including supermarkets, pubs and some small independent shops and eateries, as well as the Meadows shopping centre with a number of branded outlets. Further up the A30, you have Camberley which is undergoing significant regeneration and brings a large shopping centre, leisure centre, theatre and cinema to the added benefits of the area.

Blackwater and its surrounding villages and towns of Yateley, Farnborough, Darby Green, Frogmore, Sandhurst and Hawley offer a wide range of outstanding schools in the area. Frogmore infants’ school is a local primary option and, you have Manor Infant school in Farnborough and Westfields Junior in Yateley, all of which are outstanding. Secondary options are Kings International college, Collingwood College and Tomlinscote schools.
It is not uncommon to board the trains in Blackwater around rush hour along with the many students travelling to attend the outstanding Farnborough College of Technology.
Blackwater is excellent for commuting be this by road, by bus and by train. The blackwater train station has a number of routes to key areas across Surrey, Hampshire and Berkshire. Local trains take you to Guildford in just over 15 minutes, Wokingham in just under. The train to Reading takes about 25 minutes and you can also get to central London and Gatwick airport in just over an hour.
Travel by the route is also relatively easy, you are directly on the A30 which takes you onwards into Staines via Camberley, Sunningdale and then towards Basingstoke in the opposite direction.
The M3 is also a short drive away which takes you into London and to the M25. Blackwater also offers a number of bus routes locally and into Aldershot and Farnborough.
