Based in the borough of Spelthorne, Staines or more officially, Staines-upon-Thames is a post town which actually contains a few villages. Overall Staines is a wonderful area with plenty of parks such as The Colne Valley Park which covers more than 40 square miles of countryside to the west of London and reaches Staines at its most southerly point. Found just outside the town centre, it features Staines Moor, which is one of the few remaining pastures of the medieval Manor of Staines. It comprises a mosaic of farmland, woodland and water, with a combined 200 miles of rivers, canals and more than 60 lakes. Two Rivers and Elmsleigh are the two main shopping centres in Staines and are built up of large stores including T K Maxx, Currys, Next, Pandora and The Entertainer. As well as the shops, there are lots of places to eat including Costa Coffee, McDonalds and Pret offering food to grab and go, but also restaurants such as Zizzi, Harvester and Nando’s.
Staines and the surrounding areas of Ashford, Stanwell and Egham have more than 20 excellent school options to choose from, including Pre-School and nurseries. Ashford Park Primary School in Ashford and Buckland Primary School in Laleham, Staines top the Primary school rankings whilst The Magna Carta School and The Matthew Arnold School, both in Staines, tend to be the most popular of Secondary Schools in the area. For sixth form or university education, there are several choices including Brooklands College (Ashford Campus), Strodes College in Egham and the well know Royal Holloway University of London based in Englefield Green, just a 10 minute drive from Staines.
