Our Top Five Surrey Destination Dog Walks

Polesden Lacey, Great Bookham

Situated close to Dorking, Polesdon Lacey comprises of a huge 1,400-acre estate, including lovely views of the Surrey Hills, ancient woodlands, historic farmsteads and the Denbies Vineyard. The former owner of this National Trust gem, Mrs. Greville, was a real dog-lover, so space for walkies must have been a priority for her!

Gatton Park, Reigate Hill

Unleash yourself and your canine companion into a delightful mix of ancient woodland and open spaces designed by Lancelot Capability Brown himself. Be sure to sniff out the quieter route that starts from Gatton Park Road – just walk up the hill past the stable to join the Discover Gatton route.

River Wey Towpath

This walk is easily adapted according to what point on the towpath you pick to start on. Walking from Weybridge to New Haw Lock (starting point: Thames Street and Walton Lane, Weybridge) is recommended, as this follows the route of the last commercial barges on the Wey Navigations. The large Wey barges, owned by Stevens and Sons, transported grain from the Royal Docks in London to Coxes Mill in Addlestone until the late 1960s. The last of the remaining barges can be seen at the National Trust managed Dapdune Wharf, Guildford, also on the towpath.

Painshill Park, Cobham

This 158-acre wooded wonderland has several different routes, the shortest being the circuit around the Serpentine Lake. Painshill is a fantastic opportunity to witness one man’s vision of a landscape of living painting’s. Created by the Hon. Charles Hamilton between 1738- 1773, the gardens were chiefly inspired by two Grand Tours of Europe, follies scattered across the grounds add to dramatic effect.

Windsor Great Park

With such a lot of space and so many variable trails and tracks, Windsor Great Park is not only a famous destination to tick off the list, but is guaranteed to keep the smallest and biggest dogs happy. There are lakeside walks, wild forests and open fields – if it’s good enough for the Queen, it’s good enough for us!
