Seymours Tackle The Charity Fire Walk For Woking & Sam Beare Hospice

Every year, Woking and Sam Beare Hospice host a fundraising event like no other. To raise money for their amazing cause, individuals sign up to complete a 15ft firewalk. They each take it in turns to face their fears and tread carefully across burning embers, all in aid of the work they do at the hospice.

Not only did many of the Seymours team take part this year, but we were so proud to be able to sponsor the event too. While many fundraisers are held each year, this firewalk is something really unique we could do as a business and for such a great cause – we thought, why not give it a go! Our JustGiving page is still open, so if you’d like to donate, you can do so here

Who Are Woking & Sam Beare Hospice & Wellbeing Care?

As a charity, their amazing team cares for over 2000 patients each year, along with their carers and families.

They specialise in caring for those with progressive advanced conditions that are life-limiting. In order for these people to be able to live out the rest of their lives comfortably and around those they love, their nurses and staff deliver care in the comfort of their own homes, wards within the hospice and within care homes.

They believe that as important as it is to look after the patients in such a vulnerable time, it is also vital that those around them get the support they need. Whether that be a carer, husband, wife, son or daughter – the impact of having a loved one be unwell can be life-changing.

As a result, they always strive to provide the most understanding and highest-quality of palliative care so that everyone involved can be sure they are getting the best support possible.

Seymours: Facing Our Fears

This is the first year we have taken part in the Woking & Sam Beare charity firewalk, but we just knew we had to be a sponsor as well.

Back in 2018, we listed them as our charity of the year in the Woking area, having raised over £20,000 for them and funding over 375 hours of care. This year, we had multiple members take part in the fundraising event. Our list includes people from various branches:

Kerri Webb – Woking office

Brett Foulser – Woking office

Spencer Darrington – Woking office

Clare Worrall – Horsall office

Krisy Ehret – Horsall office

Adam Partridge – Burpham office

Claire Miles – Guildford office

Zo Khan – Woking office

As a result of these 8 amazing individuals taking part and pushing for contributions from – family, friends and colleagues, we managed to raise a staggering £4,339!

All of Woking & Sam Beares’s care is provided free of charge to families who need it. Because of this, every penny raised is vital in helping them deliver the high standards of care they strive for.

With more funds, they can afford to help more patients and go above and beyond in the services they provide. Whether this means hiring more staff and nurses or developing their skills so they are better equipped for every eventuality. That is why we decided to sponsor the event and help raise as much as possible.

How Was The Experience?

Kerri took part this year and found it to be a really fun experience that she would encourage others to take part in next year.

She said that the host of the event, in particular, “made everyone feel at ease and made the whole event so entertaining and it allowed everyone to have a laugh and enjoy what [they] were doing for the Hospice.”

“I’ve been asked to jump out of planes before, but this was something I felt like I could do to help and get stuck into. It didn’t involve heights and wasn’t as frightening as other events. Although I did have to have a little push from Krisy… it really was mind over matter and was a great thing to do to raise money.”

Not only did Kerri have a great time, but she mentioned how it was “brilliant for team building and getting to know people from other branches.” Along with the rest of the Seymours bunch, she was able to challenge herself for a good cause and face a fear that day.

Thanks to the visits the Seymours employees have made to the hospice, plenty of the team were willing to take part and knew first-hand what amazing work they would be contributing to.

A Word From Woking & Sam Beare Hospice

Krista Lougher, the challenge events and community fundraiser at the hospice works hard to organise these firewalks and get as many people involved as possible. After the Seymours team took part, Krista wanted to let everyone who had taken part know why it’s such a great opportunity:

On behalf of myself, the events team and everyone at Woking & Sam Beare Hospices we would like to thank Seymour’s for not only conquering the coals and doing fabulous fundraising but for also sponsoring the event and helping to make it the success it was. The evening was entertaining and we look forward to the next event.”

It isn’t just the firewalks that Krista and the events team hold each year. There are plenty of other ways to raise money for the cause.

Other Fundraising Opportunities

Woking & Sam Beare rely on a steady flow of contributions from supporters and families. Because of this, they always have plenty of ways you can get involved. So if you’re touched by their values and mission and want to help support their work, you can take a look at their full events list here. But let’s take a look at some coming up soon.

Reindeer Run For Schools & Childrens Groups

A good old-fashioned sponsored run. This is a bit more child-friendly than the firewalk and allows them to get involved in fundraising and charity work early on. They can take part with their friends and have fun making their own antlers to wear while running!

Hospice Christmas Market

Alongside their festive fun run, the charity will be running their own stalls and selling goodies to raise money. Anyone can turn up to support this event and it will be held at Woking Leisure Centre on the 5th of December. Don’t forget to bring your woolly hats!

As well as attending events hosted by the charity, you could set up your own fundraiser to get involved. Make it as unique or simple as you like, but the important thing is that you are doing it for an amazing cause.

Even if you don’t want to run or bake or walk over burning coals, but you can still afford a donation – you can visit the Woking & Sam Beare website and make a donation here.
