Property portals such as Rightmove boasted increased property searches of 231% after Christmas day last year.  So, if you are approaching the Christmas period and selling your home is starting to cross your mind, below are few tips that can you make your move next year.

1.Spruce up the garden

 With the heavy autumn leaf fall still present on many a garden or driveway, having a good clear out will do wonders for giving your home that ‘curb appeal’ – and will also help you to appreciate it more as well.  Clear away the leaves, give the patio a jet wash, cover up patio furniture and pop out some seasonal hanging baskets, the garden centres are full of winter shrubs and vibrant colours so add a flash of colour to your outside area.

2. Keep it neutral

 Your winter palette is typically neutral and bright however this also helps to create a blank canvass required for potential buyers to see how your home would suit them.  If you have not done so already, consider toning down any bold colours ready for photos and viewings.

3. Add a bit of winter décor

 That blank canvas, however, does not need to be boring, you can add colours, textures and vibrancy through soft furnishings such as pillows, luxurious throws and even a curtain refresh. Adding some plaid or seasonal colours can make you feel at home, yet still, be attractive to the potential buyer.

4. Make a great entrance

 This is your chance to make a great first impression for those visiting your home.  Be mindful that the winter weather often means muddy boots and heavy coats so taking the time to make this space a welcome one is well worth it. Consider tasteful storage for the wellies, placing the coats in cupboard space and even hanging some eucalyptus by the entrance to add that fresh fragrance, all will help create the impression your home deserves.

5. Lighting the way

It is important to ensure your home is well lit, especially on dark, winter days so make sure all of the lights are working, and you have well-placed lamps in darker locations.  If your lighting can be controlled remotely using a system similar to Hive, consider switching them on before viewings.

6. Keep it warm

If you are out when viewing takes place, pre-set the heating to come on before viewings.  Not only will this create a nice, warm welcome, but it also shows your central heating works as well.
