Why move to Guildford
24 July, 2020It’s a town that’s steeped in history and walking through its streets you can see that first-hand. Unlike neighbouring Woking with its high-rise buildings, Guildford holds onto a traditional beauty, and its cobbled High Street is a popular destination for shopping, even for Londoners who want to browse in a bit more peace.
So why else should you make the move to Guildford?
Plenty to Do
There’s so much for people to do in their downtime. The Yvonne Arnaud theatre plays host to many impressive shows and is known for its yearly panto, G Live is the area’s premier music and events venue and attracts some top-level talent, and there’s also a large cinema complex. If you’re looking to make an evening of it, then there’s a whole host of bars and pubs that attract people county-wide and some renowned restaurants to match. The Spectrum Leisure Centre has bowling lanes, pools and an ice rink if it’s some weekend activities you’re looking for and for some free entertainment, Stoke Park has a paddling pool for the kids, a skatepark for the teens and acres of parkland for sport and games.
Great for Families
In Guildford you will find schools galore, some of the best in the country in fact. Close to the town centre are the Royal Grammar School, Guildford High School and Tormead School. These schools boast tremendous academic records. Close at hand there are some brilliant boarding schools, including Charterhouse and Epsom College.
It’s a very safe town with low rates of crime and it offers a friendly environment where children can flourish. It has a lovely sense of community and throughout the year, there are events that attract the whole town.
Close to London
Want to move from the Big City but aren’t quite ready for the country life? Guildford might be the next step for you. It really combines the best of both worlds. Rolling countryside is only a 10 minutes’ walk away from the centre of town but so is the mainline station that will take you into central London within 40 minutes.
Did We Mention the Countryside?
Surrey is the County with the most woodland, and this is very evident in Guildford where you are never more than a 5 minutes’ drive from some of the most beautiful countryside that the UK has to offer. The Surrey Hills are recognised as being an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, and the North Downs provide some stunning views. If you fancy taking the dog for a walk, then we recommend a trip to The Chantries, Newlands Corner or St. Martha’s Church.
